PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical Company—formerly the Jilin Chemical Industry Company (Jihua), a key project under the nation's First Five-Year Plan and hailed as the "eldest son" of New China's chemical industry—began construction in 1954 and commenced production in 1957. It was incorporated into the PetroChina system in 1998 and completed its share acquisition and integration in 2006. Located in Jilin City, the company is a massive integrated refining and chemical enterprise with an annual crude oil processing capacity of 9.8 million tons and an ethylene production capacity of 1.9 million tons. Supported by over a hundred refining and chemical units, it manufactures more than 110 types of chemical products—including ABS, acrylonitrile, methyl methacrylate, and ethylene-propylene rubber—serving as a major domestic production base for synthetic resins and synthetic rubber.
